Andrea, tell us about your book?

Deputy for Christ is a compilation of insight that was given to me from God and just knowledge that I received over time through education, training, and life experiences. It is a book designed to help facilitate balance to a person’s life with insightful feedback. After each section I provide a prayer of activation to help the reader pray in the spirit against the works of the enemy to denounce and disallow any plan of the enemy to destroy the plans and will of God. There is a journal section in which the reader is asked thought provoking questions to do the work towards their healing or growth. Finally the element of poetry is simply to provide a colorful voice to different situations.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

I wanted to provide readers with different situations and show them that there is life beyond what they have life which has causes headaches and heartache. The journal portion speaks to my extensive mental health background in which as a mental health therapist I help people tap into their own ability to be healed.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult part was simply ensuring that every portion of writing was directed by God and not me. You can get into flesh when you yourself are not focused and not seeking God on everything.

Why do you write?

Because we are overcome by the word of our testimony. My testimony is great and I have overcome so much that writing gives me a place and voice to give back to others that face the same struggles I did. Peace comes out of my writing and that is what I want my readers to experience.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I want to readers to learn their worth to the world and to God. I want readers to realize their own ability to conquer their past move towards their goals and live life beyond existing.

What’s next for you?

Finish my PsyD. Grow my agency Life Movement Empowering Ministries to have solid community and mental health programs and transitional living. Finish my second book that focuses on single parenting. Finally grow as an empowerment speaker offering more workshops focusing on mental health and well being in the community and ministry.

Who are your favorite authors?

Iyanla Vanzant and John C. Maxwell

What book(s) are you reading now?

25 Laws of Doing the impossible

Successful Women Think Differently

Everyone communicates few people connect

The leader in Me

& It’s not you it’s what happened to you.. Complex trauma and treatment

What books have most influenced your life?

The influencer

Change or Die

Five levels of leadership

The books mentioned in the previous question.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

John C. Maxwell. His ability to discuss leadership from a natural and spiritual level has really helped me.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

Write daily. Carry a tablet with you because you never know when God will speak to you.

Deptuy For ChristABOUT THE BOOK

Deputy for Christ is a daily devotional and working journal that provides the reader with support to get through tough situations. The book provides a number of circumstances, with helpful scriptures, followed by an area to journal. The purpose of the journal pages is to provoke the reader to think about each circumstance and how they can empower themselves to work through it. The prayers of activation help the reader seek God specifically for that specific situation and begin to practice the power that God has given us as ambassadors. This book will help the individual reader work towards healing and speak life to situations they feel hopeless. The book provides hope for the hopeless, joy for the joyless, and strength for those that need encouragement. It empowers the reader to progressively make changes in their personal life and begin living a God balanced life.

The family has forgiven Alicia for marrying Levi Cunningham, the former drug dealer she had an affair with, however, once Alicia realizes they will never fully accept Levi, she decides to see her family less and less.

#RockYourBook New Release ‘Silhouette of Her: Naked & Unashamed: A Poetic Journey of Faith’ by Bestselling Author Richale R. Reed

Richale R Reed HS PRESSABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bestselling Author | Motivational Speaker| Trainer | Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor | Addiction Counselor

Richale, is a motivational speaker who happens to also be both a Board Certified licensed professional counselor and addictions counselor. Richale currently serves as the therapist for Monarch’s residential FBC/NMHD facility in Lumberton, NC where she loves what she “gets to do” every day to change lives.

It was partially due to her own past traumas that she became a therapist with a genuine love for people and crisis work. Her specialty is moving people from a place of stagnation to change! Her ability to relate amplifies her ability to “hold a room” as one of her corporate clients testified, regardless of the reason that she was given the mic. She has trained mental health and substance abuse professionals for agencies such as Addictions Professionals of North Carolina. She also has a passion for working with churches to understand the benefits of having counselors work with their congregations. Richale can be found giving motivational and inspirational information in the form of blogs and videos on her website, http://www.RichaleReed.com , on YouTube, and on Facebook search “Richale Reed Motivational Speaker” to connect. She is available for professional and motivational speaking services to businesses and churches, trainings for professionals and laypersons, and she specializes in customizing events and topics to make your event special. A poet and author, she is available to “spit” at your next poetry slam too!

In her spare time she loves spending time with God through spiritual practices, loves her time with family traveling, has always loved the experience of good food, and as an avid music lover, she has a special affinity for outdoor concerts.

Richale, tell us about your book?

Silhouette of Her: Naked and Unashamed is a poetic memoir of parts of my life that was actually written in the early 2000’s and compiled in 2005 but not released. It speaks of my journey and is relatable because it is also the journey of many women who have struggled to live in this world full of harsh judgments, criticisms, and expectations. These are women who still have the capacity for self-love and love for others.  I believe my book is unique in how it goes about telling my story, our stories.  It’s a must read whether you hate, like, or love poetry because it is more than poetry. It’s an opportunity for each reader to move from a place of stagnation to transformation and eventually have the powerful experience of witnessing their very own transformation.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

It was organic. I was a student at a predominantly Caucasian college and my professor would constantly insist that my interpretation of poetry was incorrect. Life was happening at the same time and I was inspired to process my life through poetry as a way of coping. I found it to be very helpful and because I love to help others, the idea to share what had helped me was a natural one.

What makes your book different from other poetry books?

My book is different from other poetry book because each poem is offset by a life’s lesson which is essentially an inside look at what was going on in my life at the time the poem was written and what I learned from it. I believe, there is no other book on the market like it!! So even if you don’t like poetry, you will love the experience you’ll have in my book. And yet there is a NEXT LEVEL. Think about it, how many poets are also therapists, who can help uncover themes found in the poems first then in the lives of the readers?  That is how I extend myself outside of the book. As a part of my BOOK TOUR, I am launching the Silhouette of Her: Naked and Unashamed BOOK CLUB all over to take the discussion to a deeper level and bring about transformation.  It’s going to be a wonderful experience that your organization can host.  I will make a personal appearance, sign books and tee shirts, and lead the book club experience.  How does that work?  Your institution (business, college, school, sorority, and other women’s group) or faith based organization (women’s fellowships, workshops, conferences etc.) orders a minimum bulk order of the book or the book and tees by contacting me on my website www.richalereed.com . Your newly formed SOH book club creates your meeting schedule (weekly [recommended], bi-weekly, or monthly). Then you contact me on www.richalereed.com to book me for a one or 2 day book club experience. It’s that easy.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

Overall it was an easy process because its origin wasn’t to write a book. It was my process for coping with my thoughts and feelings about life at the time. Interestingly enough, the most challenging aspect of the book is getting the word out through social media. I have resurrected Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube to make sure I get the word out. My husband has worked tirelessly on my website to make sure my followers have a pleasant experience so be sure to stop by RichaleReed.com, sign up for updates and inspirational messages and videos and you can connect to me from there on all my social media sites.

Why do you write?

I write as a form of therapy many times and other times to learn, to plan, and to remember where God has brought me from. I also write to encourage others.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

Interesting question because this book is full of valuable lessons that I learned.  What’s unique is how I share them; a juxtaposition of poetry and life’s lessons. First you have a poem and next you have the lesson along with some encouragement for your journey. I want them to learn their responsibility in the process of transformation so that they can achieve it.

What’s next for you?

Well after the book tour is the book club which is geared towards women but I am open to a men’s group or mixed group. My husband and father didn’t read the book until the proof was delivered. They both can attest to the idea that this book is for everyone, including men because we are all relational. I will facilitate the first one at a church in Fayetteville in September. That is going to be so much fun because I love connecting with people. I am even more excited about the next phase of the writing process. I plan to follow this book up with a journal and another surprise that will help take this experience to the next level for each reader.

Who are your favorite authors?

I don’t have a favorite but I do have an appreciation for Maya Angelou and not just because I celebrated my gradation from Salem College at her house. It was mind boggling. Oprah was our commencement speaker and I was excited about going to Maya’s house to celebrate with my friend and her niece Rosa. I was too excited to meet Oprah. I believed that I was going to have a television show just like her and I did! I am naturally blessed with the gift of gab but when I met Oprah and Gail at the bar serving drinks, I could not talk. I “fanned out” as Wendy Williams would say.

What book(s) are you reading now?

The Spirit of Python by Jentenzen Franklin and The Shadow Effect: Illuminating The Hidden Power by Marianne Williamson, Debbie Ford, and Deepa Chopra, Conquering an Enemy Called Average by John Mason, and Let Nothing Disturb You by Teresa of Avila.

What books have most influenced your life?

Wheat Belly Total Health by Dr. Davis. (Weight loss/nutrition)…Body Image is a topic mentioned in the book as being a food addict has had a major impact on my life as food addiction is another part of my story.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

That would have to be William Blake as I was inspired by his poetry and the idea that we should write not for eloquence of speech but to get a message to all people!

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

Just write, write and write some more!  Write about what inspires you and do it in LOVE because anything outside of LOVE is outside of God. Regardless of your faith, we all need and want to be loved. LOVE will draw people to you and your message. Lastly, realize that a great responsibility comes with the gift use it to uplift and bring people together and it will serve you well.

silhoute of herABOUT THE BOOK

A revealing and inspirational journey of a young Christian woman’s struggle through a life filled with setbacks and set-ups through negative societal messages and traumatic experiences and how she overcame through her faith. Her story unfolds using a juxtaposition of poetry followed by deeply personal messages to her readers. Richale shares it all, from the degradation of being dismissed with the words, “You can go now,” after an uneventful “bootie call” to the liberation of discovering her voice through it all. Carefully crafted, she hopes each page will inspire you to embrace who you are through faith; in essence, joining her in becoming that Silhouette of Her: Naked and Unashamed.

#RockYourBook ‘Turned Upside Down: My Testimony of Transformation,’ by Bertha St. John

Bertha St John useABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author | Licensed Minister | Educator | Consultant | Entrepreneur

Bertha L. St. John is an educator, consultant, and business owner. She is also a licensed minister, intercessor, and kindergarten teacher at Word of Restoration International Church under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Charles Perry, Jr. and First Lady Charlotte Perry. She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from the University of Houston.

Bertha, tell us about your book?

The book, “Turned Upside Down”, My Testimony of Transformation, reveals how a painful incident caused a little girl in a segregated rural Texas town to become angry, fearful and defeated.  These feelings remained hidden within her heart and accompanied her into young adult life.  Something happened in her life that caused a change.    She began to see herself differently.  She went from being a victim to victorious, fearful to faithful, ugly to beautiful and from defeated to victorious.  Her life was transformed.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

The title “Turned Upside Down”, My Testimony of Transformation was derived from an experience that occurred at a prayer conference in 1990 given by Bishop Dorothy Washington at the Hilton Hotel in Houston, Texas.  Dr. Jean Perez, the guest speaker, ministered on the theme: A Transformed Life.   After speaking, she began prophesying to people in the room.  While looking at me, she pointed her finger at me while stating, “God is going to turn your life upside down and it will never be the same again.  He has called you into the ministry” .

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult aspect of writing this book was to re-write it.  My editor, Sherena Ward had me to read, Maya Angelou’s book: “I know Why the Caged Bird Sings”.  After reading the story, we discussed the book at length.  I had to go back to the drawing board and write to a specific audience of people while being as descriptive as possible.

Why do you write?

I write because, I feel more confident when putting words on paper.  The words tend to flow easily.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

Seven valuable lessons that I want readers to learn from the book, “ Turned Upside Down”, My Testimony of Transformation are as follows:

  1. God has a plan for your life
  2. Promotions comes from God
  3. Begin each day with prayer
  4. Have faith in God
  5. The gateway to freedom is forgiveness
  6. Don’t quit
  7. Salvation has benefits

Who are your favorite authors?

My favorite authors are:

  1. (late) Dr. Myles Monroe-“Pursuit of Purpose”
  2. Stormie O Martian- “The Power of a Praying Wife
  3. Sarah Morgan- “You Shall Decree A Thing”
  4. Cindy Trimm- “Commanding Your Morning”
  5. Joel Osteen- “ Become a Better You”

What book(s) are you reading now?

Presently, I am reading, “How to Relate to Your Pastor”.  I am a member of   the Word of Restoration International Church, located in Rosharon, Texas, under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Charles Perry, Jr. and First Lady Charlotte Perry.  As members, my husband and I have submitted ourselves to our pastor as our shepherd.  Our desire is to serve help our pastor by serving the members.

What books have most influenced your life?

The books that most impacted my life are:

  • The Pursuit of Purpose- Dr. Myles Monroe
  • The Power of a Praying Wife-Stormie O Martin
  • You Shall Decree A Thing- Dr. Sarah Morgan
  • Commanding Your Morning- Dr. Cindy Trimm
  • Lord Change Me- Evelyn Christenson
  • Become A Better You- Joel Osteen

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

If I had to choose a writer as a mentor I would choose Dr. Cindy Trimm.  The reason why I selected her is because she knows how to challenge a person to speak the word.  In addition, her life is built on prayer.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

The advice that I would give an aspiring writer is the advice my Pastor Dr. Charles Perry Jr. gave us in one of the Lessons related to the Enemies of Faithful Expectancy:

“We come into the world looking like our parents but we leave here looking like our decisions.“

Where you are now is based on decisions that you have made in the past.  Change begins the minute you decide to launch out using your writing abilities to enhance others along the journey of life.  Begin now to speak words of life into your readers.  According to Isaiah 55:11 in the God’s Word Translation,  “ My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow.  It will not come back to me without results.  It will accomplish whatever I want and achieve whatever I send it to do.”

TURNED UPSIDE DOWN 1

ABOUT THE BOOK

Have you ever wanted your life to change?

Turned Upside Down reveals how a painful incident caused a little girl in segregated rural Texas to feel angry, fearful, ugly, and defeated. As a young woman, these hidden feelings still haunted her and would have kept her in bondage. But, by encountering God like never before, she moved from victim to victorious, from fearful to faithful, from ugly to beautiful, and from defeated to triumphant. Her life was completely transformed and would never be the same again.

In her first book, Bertha St. John shares her journey to encourage others to break though the physical and emotional bondage of poverty, prejudice, poor self-esteem, and molestation. Walk with her as she reveals how God transformed her life and wants to do the same for you.

On the Facebook Page you’d like to continue seeing posts from, click “Following.” Of the three options, pick “See First.”

That should ensure the Page’s posts show up in your Facebook News Feed on a regular basis. You can also go to “Notifications” on a Facebook page you’ve Liked and ensure you’ll be alerted to various post types coming from that source.

Why is Facebook changing its algorithm?

“In a June press release Facebook wrote -“The goal of News Feed is to show people the stories that are most relevant to them,”

According to Facebook, the News Feed is now faced with a challenge: too much information for individuals to consume. As you already know, the posts inside an individual’s news feed aren’t in order of when they’re posted. Instead, they appear in an almost chaotic sequence, but there’s order to that sequence. Facebook algorithyms track what you like and who you interact with in numerous ways, determining what content you should and shouldn’t be seeing in your News Feed. While Facebook is constantly making little changes to this algorithms to better serve users, they are making a drastic alteration to their algorithm that may change the fundamental ways an individual’s News Feed appears.

The changes to the algorithm will bring the focus back to a user’s friends and family, taking attention away from news posted by Facebook pages. Facebook still intends to keep you informed, but its new algorithms will attempt to do so through the stories your friends share.

This means you’ll likely see fewer stories from the direct sources. Instead of reading local news from your local news station’s posts, you’ll have to depend on your friends to be posting those stories from that station.

For some, this will inevitably prove useful. If your primary reason for being on Facebook is to connect with the people that you know, this might enhance your experience. For others, this might diminish the Facebook experience. For those looking for up-to-date news straight from the source, the News Feed might become less useful.
