Beverly, tell us about your book?
The book is a follow up to my first book called “Christianity, the Law of Attraction and the One Command. Since writing that book I have continued learning and investigating how to use our minds and to connect with God in a greater way. I wanted to find what worked by using the tools that we were born with. This book takes using affirmations to another level. I wanted to know why you had to say affirmations over and over. What I found is that you didn’t if you said them in a certain way. This book gives the what, when and how of the certain ways.
How did you come up with idea for this book?
It initially was going to be called 10 Commands for Abundant Living. It was going to cover 10 areas of life where people ask for change or help
What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?
I was finding it hard to come up with 10 valid areas to write about and I was stuck for a long time in the title. That is what can happen to us when we are determined to stick with the original thought. When I was inspired to change the title to 7 commands (still a complete number) I began to open up. I was still stuck. I developed a seminar called Mega-Manifesting and that is what I started calling the book. At that point Spirit said ok Beverly now here is what you are going to write and the words began to flow. I was shown yet again what to do and the book began to write itself. I had tons of material I just needed a way to organize and share them in a way that my readers could use and understand.
Why do you write?
Why do I breathe. I love it. I have journals all over the place with a few pages written in them because I couldn’t find the book I had started. I love to write my thoughts especially when I am in a melancholy mood. I was on a flight from California back to Dallas and we were meandering in and out of clouds. Words to describe this began to flow and I wrote on the back of an envelope. I described the clouds like pure white icebergs floating in the sky. I went on to talk about how peaceful and quiet it seems to be even as lightning was passing through other clouds nearby. Writing is fun. Writing to express oneself even if no one else reads it is calming and rewarding. Writing can help you clear your mind as well as get your thoughts on paper. When creating a dream or a directive use a pen and paper. There is a connection between mind, body and soul in the pen. I have several fountain pens because they remind me of a time long ago when writing letters, notes and thank you’s was accepted as good manners.
What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
The main lesson is that whatever you think about, or dwell on is what comes into your life. You have the power to change their life through accessing your inner self, your subconscious mind in such a way that you are in the ante room of God. You can ask and receive what you desire simply by following the principles Matthew 21:22, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Do not discuss what you don’t want while in prayer or in normal life. Learn to meditate and only ask for what you want.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have several. Catherine Ponder, Neville Goddard, Napoleon Hill, James Allen, Steven Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, Tedd Dekker, Sidney Selton, Nicholas Sparks and many others.
What book(s) are you reading now?
I am reading several. I pick up the one and begin to read where I left off. It just depends on
what I need to learn. They are:
This Mystical Life of Ours – Ralph Waldo Trine (one chapter per day of 24)
You Can Have an Amazing Life in Just 60 Days – Dr. John F. Demartini
Proof of Heaven, A neurosurgeon’s journey into the afterlife. Eben Alexander, M. D.
E2 by Pam Grout.
What books have most influenced your life?
Within the last 8 years these have influenced me greatly. I am not discounting the Bible. These are in addition to it.
The Secret – Rhonda Byrne
The Amazing Laws of Cosmic Mind Power by Joseph Murphy
Your Best Life Now – Joel Olsteen
The One Command – Asara Lovejoy
The Wisdom of Your Suconscious Mind – John K. Williams
The Properity Secrets of the Ages by Catherine Ponder.
Law of Success – Napoleon Hill
Master Key System – Charles Haanel
At Your Command – Neville Goddard
As a Man Thinket – James Allen
If you are wondering why the there are only 3 who are currently alive it is because I decided to go to the root of the thought. I wanted to learn from the masters of yesterday as well as today.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
That is a good question. Everyone has a particular style in there writing. I would choose Tom Clancy because he wrote about a subject he was not familiar with however he became an expert from research and study. I would ask how he learned. How did he get the inside scoop on how things worked in the military and was he afraid when he wrote his first book that hit the best seller list “The Hunt for Red October.”
Any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Stop talking about writing. Just write. Learn the language. Learn your grammar. Get an excellent editor. When you think you are done, print off your book and read it out loud. You will find a lot of stuff you missed on the computer. Fix what you need and repeat until you feel the book is great. Be aware it is never done. If you are going to use dialect in a book, know it well and how to write about it. You may have to translate for your readers. If you are going to write a period piece research what life was like back then. How did people dress, talk? What were the manners? Write because you love it not because you think you will be the next J. K. Rowling or the lady who wrote “The Help.” You can become them. You have to persevere just as they did. Many writers never sell over 250 books and that is mostly to friends and family.
