#RockYourBook “When I Stopped Being Angry With God” by Bestselling Author Robin M. Sample

robin sample hs

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author | Motivational Speaker| Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Victim Advocate | Community Health Outreach Worker| Missionary | Visionary|

Robin M. Sample is a new author; however, she is no stranger to writing.  She began journaling at a very young age, which gave birth to her first book, “When I Stopped Being Angry With God”.  She was born and raised in Cambridge, MD, where she currently resides.  She is a two-time college graduate, with an A.A.S Degree in Paralegal Studies from Chesapeake College and a B.A. Degree in Psychology from Washington College.  She is currently employed by For All Seasons, Inc. in the Rape Crisis Center as an Advocate for Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. She has also worked as a Victim Advocate and Case Manager for Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence as well as the Caroline Counseling Center as an Addictions Counselor.  Robin believes she was called to serve in each of these employment capacities due to her personal life experiences.  She sees her work as paying it forward.

Robin believes that everything she has gone through was not only about, nor was it only for her, which has led to her strong desire to become a motivational speaker, giving hope to those who have experienced or who are currently experiencing situations such as those that she has overcome.  Robin is committed to paying it forward and if she can save at least one person, than her life has not been in vain.

Robin, Tell us about your book

My book is a depiction of my life, beginning at the age of five (5) years old, giving examples of the hurt, pain and trauma that I suffered throughout the course of my life and how I dealt with it ineffectively, by blaming God and ultimately becoming angry with Him and turning my back on Him.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

I came up with the idea for this book by compiling journal entries that I had written over the years.  That was the structural idea.  The foundational idea stemmed from my having become an addictions counselor and it was concreted when I became an advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  It was at that time that I felt a need and desire to share my story with the world in an effort to pay it forward to others who may be experiencing what I have experienced or who have been where I had been.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult of writing my book was going back to the painful places of my past and reliving those moments so that I could tell those stories.

Why do you write?

I write because it is therapeutic.  I find it easier to express my feelings through writing than by verbally expressing them, especially feelings of hurt, pain and/or anger.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

The main things I want readers to learn from my book are that everything that happens to us do not define who we are, we define who we are.  And also that God often times uses us to speak to others and also to bless others, therefore, everything that happens to us during our lifetime is not necessarily for us, but also for others.  Therefore, we have to count everything to joy because even though we may experience some very traumatic experience events throughout the course of our lives, how we react and respond to them and how God blesses us and brings us through them is the witness that someone else needs in order to make it through their storm.

Who are your favorite authors?

My favorite authors are Kimberla Roby Lawson and Steve Harvey.

What book(s) are you reading now?

I just finished reading “Think Like A Success” by Steve Harvey and I also just finished reading “Who Am I When I’m Under the Limelight” by Tasha M. Wilson.  I am not currently reading anything right now.

What books have most influenced your life?

“The Purpose Driven Life” and “Think Like A Success” have influenced my life the most because they have given me the desire to be a better person and go after my goals and dreams.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

I would consider Steve Harvey a mentor because I can relate to him on a lot of levels.  From listening to him on his talk radio show, especially from 6:00am – 6:15am, he talks in detail about his struggles and how God transformed him into the person He is today.  He doesn’t hide the fact that his life has been turbulent along the way or that he has had a lot of setbacks, he celebrates those times and has used them as stepping stools to elevate himself to higher heights and I can totally relate to that mindset.  He is real, he is genuine and he is passionate about paying it forward to others who he sees struggling trying to make something out of their lives and anyway that he can help them, he will, and that is my passion, to do that very same thing.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

My advice is, if you have a story to tell, no matter how big or small, tell it; you never know who that story may help.  It just may be the story that turns someone’s life around or brings them into closer relationship with their Higher Power.  More importantly, your story, just may be the one that saves someone’s life!

When I Stopped Being Angry With God

ABOUT THE BOOK

“When I Stopped Being Angry With God,” gives an account of the life experiences of the author, Robin M. Sample, who takes her readers on a very intimate and detailed journey of the highs and lows she faced throughout her life.  Robin, having been a victim of teasing, bullying, rejection, abandonment, domestic violence and sexual assault, spent the majority of her life suffering from low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, lack of self-worth, poor body image and severe depression. Robin was introduced to the church at an early age by her grandmother, Laura, “Bunch”, as she was affectionately called. Although Robin knew who God was and watched her grandmother faithfully serve God in and out of the church, Robin did not adopt the same feelings towards God that her grandmother had.  Because of the pain and trauma that Robin suffered, she began to blame God and often times found herself asking Him why he created her only to have her suffer the way she had.  As years passed by, Robin became increasingly angry with God and refused to attend church or even acknowledge God in her life.     As you read this heartbreaking, yet uplifting account of Robin’s life, you will see how Robin gradually emerge from victim to victorious.  Having overcome alcohol dependence, surviving multiple suicide attempts and escaping a near death experience as a result of a domestic violence situation, she is living proof that every test gives way to a testimony!

21 affirmationsABOUT THE BOOK

21 Affirmations for Forgiveness and Healing is a book comprised of affirmations and scriptures (NLT version) that Author Robin M. Sample has come to rely on to bring her out of some very dark and lonely places over the course of her life. Robin believes that affirmations, prayer, meditation and scriptures are what kept her from giving up, as she has come pretty close to giving up on several occasions, as she so transparently shared in her first book, “When I Stopped Being Angry With God.” Often times, life tosses us some unexpected curve balls that take us off course, causing us to land in unfamiliar and frightening territories. It is during those times that we feel alone, abandoned, scared and uncertain of what to do or where to turn. But when we turn to God during those times, He reminds us that He has been with us all along, watching over us, leading and guiding us, and even carrying us when we get too tired to take another step. When we learn to let go and let God, we can begin to experience the beauty of freedom to live, love, laugh and enjoy life without being held hostage by our past hurts, pain, trauma and resentment. It is Robin’s hope that this book of 21 Affirmations For Forgiveness and Healing will help readers look to God in times of sadness, loneliness, sorrow, hopelessness, helplessness, and even during times of anger and frustration.

#RockYourBook ‘Diaries of an Elect Lady: I CHOOSE 2 LIVE,’ by Anika Stewart

Anika stewartABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author | Substance Abuse Counselor | Associate Pastor| Motivational Speaker

Lady Anika is dedicated to encouraging women to be inspired through Jesus Christ. She teaches women to develop a greater relationship with God while standing firm on his promises for their lives. She teaches them to be content with his peace and grace in their minds, always knowing through their growth in God only. They’re equipped and empowered to overcome all trials; to be triumphant.

Lady Anika is a substance abuse counselor, motivational speaker, author, and Associate Pastor

Anika began her spiritual journey with Christ as a young child. Her mother, Pauline Smith, attended church under the leadership of the late Overseer, Rosie L. Johnson, of Holy Tabernacle Church of Love. Overtime, at the age of twenty-three, Anika was born again by receiving salvation and was filled with the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in other tongues. She is presently under the leadership of Apostle D. Roach III of City of Refuge Inc. and has been there since 2007. As a result of Anika accepting God’s call upon her life, she immediately began to work for the Kingdom of God by serving in various capacities in ministry. She has served as secretary, usher, missionary, and praise and worship team member. She has also served as a licensed evangelist, elder, and currently associate pastor of The Lord’s Church. Most importantly, Anika embarked upon the vision God placed in her heart to serve women of all ages. In the year of 2009, Embracing Your Inner Woman was established.

Embracing Your Inner Woman offers many services to the community such as: counseling, social events and support meetings called L.I.V.E. Anika graduated as Valedictorian in the class of 2008 of B.E.R. Christian Academy. She attended Delaware Technical Community College and was on the Dean’s List several times for academic excellence. As of May 18, 2015, Anika accepted her degree as a drug and alcohol counselor. Furthermore, she continues her education at Wilmington University studying to earn her Behavioral Science degree as well as applying for her CADC; certification to be an Alcohol and Drug Counselor of Delaware.

Anika’s purpose reflects the Prestigious Award she accepted in 2008 which was the Lady of Excellence in Leadership! She is being an example to women. She lives by her favorite scripture found in 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (KJV), “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”

Anika, tell us about your book?

My book is about forgiveness, healing, accountability and hope. This book is about a young lady who was experiencing the worst challenges of her life while ministering to Gods people. I had just got married to my husband in the year of 2009 and he was asking for a divorce in 2010. In addition, while attempting to manage my life with four children as a single parent again it was brought to my attention one of my children could possibly have a Mental Health disorder. Through this time of loneliness and feelings of despair God revealed unto me my purpose in life. I learned overtime that I had to completely rely on the strength of God and begin to allow him to do the work in me as a mother, wife and leader. I had to do the thing most people don’t want to do which is embrace my insecurities and barriers that were hindering me from maturing as a lady. It was during this time I had to accept acknowledge and own my flaws, my past and my mistakes. I could no longer hide behind my smile but remove the mask and allow the healing to manifest within me so I could effectively minister that others may be inspired to Live.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

As a child in school I always enjoyed writing and English class. Therefore I would always keep a journal and write my thoughts, feelings and concerns. This was my way of releasing my thoughts without any judgment and I felt safe and secure when writing.  Overtime once I begin to develop in my adolescent stages I grew out of journaling until I was faced with the troubles of my marriage and motherhood.  I began journaling again and found it to be therapeutic for me while I was going through these trials. I would find peace in writing.  Then one day God told me the title of my book, and this was surprising to me because I never thought about writing a book.  I knew I had to be obedient so I decided to move forward with the idea God had given me.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult aspect for me is not being aware of individuals reactions based on my truth; the fear of being judged. In the church culture there’s a false impression of the leader and/or First Lady being perfect in a sense. The first lady always has to smile, look beautiful, says all the right words but this was not my truth. It was easy for me to pray, minister, advice, encourage everyone else but I was dying inside. There’s a false illusion that you must have it all together but when you don’t have it all together, what do you do? I had to learn that it’s okay to be broken as a leader in the church but I must deal with the brokenness not suppress the brokenness. It’s okay to be transparent about your life and the circumstances God had brought you out of presently and not just the past situations.

Why do you write?

I write because it is therapeutic to me. When writing you’re able to release the hurt, pain, guilt and shame. Writing will give you a sense of peace and understanding that everything will be alright some day. Sometimes you can’t talk to nobody but you can write out your thoughts and God   will hear them. God says acknowledge him in all your ways, it doesn’t always have to be verbally just get your notepad and pen and just write and release.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I want people especially women in leadership and authority positions to implement accepting, acknowledging and owning their insecurities, barriers and flaws in their lives. When you’re accepting you are no longer in denial about the barrier that’s hindering you. You will begin to embrace the barrier by accepting that you have this problem and you have to do the work to conquer it. Next, when we are acknowledging our barrier or insecurity we are beginning to change our pattern, behaviors, language and perception concerning the issue. We will begin to decree and declare your freedom and own it. When you are in the owning stage you are consistent in doing the work daily. We will not succumb to our emotions but live in freedom.

What book(s) are you reading now?

I am currently reading Elevate Your Faith. Elevate your faith is a 31 day devotion about faith and hope. Also I am reading another devotional book titled Speaking his Words. This book is about making confessions over certain areas in your life. I believe in feeding your spirit daily with his word as well as speaking over your life, circumstances with positivity.

Who are your favorite authors?

The bible has influenced my life in so many ways. It’s empowering and full of substance. As a child I didn’t like to read and not much changed as an adult while attending college. However, the word of God captured me and it fills me up along with reading devotional book.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

If I had to choose a writer to be my mentor, I would not have to choose because he walks beside me and his name is Dr. Ira D. Roach III. This man is wise and full of knowledge. He leads by example and has taught me so much in life. He encouraged me, pushed me and never judged me.  And I could never replace him in my life. He is the author of Speaking His Words and founder of B.E.R. Christian Academy Schools.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

The advice I would give aspiring authors is to be diligent, focused and just write. Allow the words to flow and come together. Don’t be exhausted with fear or doubt just believe God and allow him to do the rest.

A Brand Is Not Built Overnight…It Takes Work #RockYourBrandCEO

latboyd-quote-brand-built-overngt-2One of the Biz Key Lesson’s I learned early on is…Brand is everything! A brand is consistent across all touch points, whatever the media. Your brand is a representation of a companies principles and passions. Understanding the power of branding and what it can do for you is an important factor in your company’s success.

Developing a brand is much more than just deciding on a name or picking some colors. A brand is the sum of all you do.  A brand is inclusive-

Brands are the culmination of

  1. who you are,
  2. how you’re different from your competition, and
  3. why a buyer should do business with you.

When it comes to Branding on social media you need to have a Brand Strategy- A branding strategy is a plan devised in advance with the intent to increase a company’s brand visibility in the consumer market place.

Building a Brand Consist of

  1. Consistency,
  2. Swag (personality)

#RockYourBook ‘Sophomore Mom,’ By LaCricia A’ngelle

LaCricia AngelleABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author | Motivational Speaker| Entrepreneur|

LaCricia A`ngelle is the National Bestselling author of Girl, Naw! Positive Deception, and It Ain’t Over, Inspirational novels published by His Pen Publishing. In her fourth novel Journey to Love, also published by His Pen Publishing LaCricia A’ngelle delves into the Romance arena with a message of love and hope. Her fifth novel entitled  Sophomore Mom is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2017. A Chicago native, currently residing in Atlanta, this wife, mother, and top selling author is on the rise to the top!

With a writing career that began when she was just a child, LaCricia A`ngelle quickly realized that God had blessed her with an unrelenting love for the written word. She has taken her childhood talents of writing songs, short stories and even a non-fiction book as a teen, and evolved into a powerhouse novelist who has matured in her craft thanks to God’s continued grace and HIS pen, which helps her put the words together.

When asked about her genre of choice, LaCricia A`ngelle responds: “As an Inspirational/Romance Author, my goal in every piece of written work I produce is to entertain, uplift and encourage my readers. My characters face real situations, and I write so that anyone who reads my work can get something out of it.”

Whether young or old, when you read a LaCricia A`ngelle original, prepare to laugh, cry, pray, and stop to say “hmmm.”

LaCricia A’ngelle, tell us about your book?

I am National Bestselling Author, LaCricia A’ngelle. I am the author of five novels, including my newest release Sophomore Mom. Sophomore Mom is a novel loosely based on my experience as a teen mom. At the age of 16 I noticed there was a huge buzz concerning teenage pregnancy. It was all over the television, in magazines, newspapers etc.

The thing I noticed most was that there were a lot of adults talking about teen pregnancy, most of which had not experienced it. Being a teen mom myself, I decided I would be a voice for teen mothers. I started to write a non-fiction book entitled Teenaged and Pregnant, a teenager’s story. Out of fear, I tossed the book aside.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

I later began my career as a novelist. With all of the books I wrote, the teen pregnancy book never left my heart. After much prayer, I decided it was time for me to become transparent, and to finally tell the story. My work as a novelist allowed me to adapt the story into one that could be read, and understood by people on all levels of life.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

My hope for Sophomore Mom is that it will impact the lives of many. I desire to discourage teen girls from becoming pregnant. Encourage those that currently are pregnant to know that they still have a future, and to let those that may have been a teen mom know that although it was tough, they made it. Many women are walking around burdened because of their role as a teen mom. I hope Sophomore Mom will be a tool to help them to forgive themselves, and to move forward. Finally, I would like to bring awareness to sexual abuse in children.

Mell, tell us about your book?

My book is Dancing At The Crossroad, a part memoir and journal that tells my healing journey from the day my Mom passed to me finding my way back to life. It is also a journal for readers to record their own feelings with guided questions.

How did you come up with idea for this book?

I started journaling soon after she passed (on advice from my mentor) as a form of therapy. In conversation with a friend a few years later, the idea came up and I started compiling it.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult aspect wasn’t in writing, but in compiling and editing. Reliving the moments I had experienced and that were actually recorded in my journal brought the pain back to life.

Why do you write?

I write as a form of expression. It gives me a sense of freedom and authority. And I can bleed on the paper and say the things I would not necessarily say out loud.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I want readers to understand that no matter how bad a situation looks or how bad they feel in the midst of a life crisis, there is always hope for a brighter day, but more importantly, with enough time the true reason for things will be revealed, so patience and perspective are necessary in the midst.

Who are your favorite authors?

Dr. Wayne Dyer, Elizabeth Gilbert

What book(s) are you reading now?

Seat of The Soul by Gary Zukav

What books have most influenced your life?

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life by Dr. Wayne Dyer

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Dr. Wayne Dyer

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

Write with your heart and soul and hold nothing back in the way of expressing yourself.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Dancing at the Crossroad is an intimate narrative portrait of how I used the power of journaling to cope with the harsh reality of overcoming loss. A part memoir and journal, I recount my personal journey dealing with the unexpected passing of my mother.

Dancing At The Crossroad started as a therapeutic exercise for me to cope with the emotional rollercoaster of grieving the loss of my mother, which, in time provided renewal and permitted me to move on.

After 3 1/2 years of compiled jottings I am able to share my journey, with the sole purpose of helping others realize they are not alone and there is no “normal” timetable for grieving.

What I have in this book isn’t another set of ‘solutions’ for grief, but a very emotional account of my experience through the course of dealing with my loss. I challenge the reader with some reflective questions to help them dig deep to overcome the rollercoaster they may be on. At the end of the day my hope is that each person draws inspiration from my story within, and know that they have the power within them to overcome any crisis if they are willing to do the time.

This book is a lifeline of sorts to anyone who could use one. Loss is never easy, but it is how we emerge from its grasp that shows strength and resilience.

It’s Time to Spring Into Action and Move Forward! By Lá Tanyha Boyd

LATBOYD MY GARDENThe old adage ‘Spring Forward, Fall Back’ is a reminder to set our clocks forward, but it can also be a reminder to spring into action.

What are you reaching for in life? This is the time for you to step out on nothing but a wing and a prayer and go forward and not look back.

I’ve learned that God never consults our past to determine our future. The roads we take become learning experiences for growth and development, to bring us into our God given purpose.

Spring into action: Get in alignment with your purpose. This is your place in history, this is your opportunity to discover your passion and cross into your promised land. So what is holding you back? You have got to make up in your mind TODAY, that you are going to spring forward with your ideas and creativity or risk going back to what you were yesterday. Get your focus back and spring forward.

“If you want something you never had, you have to do something you never done; let today be the first steps towards your goals, your calling, your deliverance ultimately your destiny”

James 2:18 (NLV) Someone may say, “You have faith, and I do things. Prove to me you have faith when you are doing nothing. I will prove to you I have faith by doing things.”

Spring and Press Forward: Don’t allow another day, minute or second go by without fulfilling your goal. Don’t be afraid to take the risk but be very afraid of stagnation. Stagnation will stifle who you really are and stunt your growth into what you should be. There is victory in and through your struggles.

In order to make it thus far, you had to go through trials. To lighten the load, you had to leave some things behind. You had to face that mountain in order to speak to it. You had to face opposition in order to claim your victory. You had to be broken, in order to be build stronger. You had to be quiet in order to hear. You had to make that mistake, in order to be taught. Your Faith had to be challenged, in order to believe God can. All that you’ve been through was for a reason. In this season you’re moving in the right direction, “YOUR PURPOSE.”

My friends don’t allow life to pass you by and not walk out your purpose and fulfill your dreams. Continue to fight a good fight of faith and stay in the PRESS of Moving Forward.

Pursuing A Balanced Life by Lá Tanyha Boyd

LATBOYD BALANCEThe Lilypad

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2 (KJV)

Finding balance in life is a realistic and important goal. However, sometimes there are hiccups and bumps in the road, and life feels out of control. When this happens it’s usually because you are not getting your needs met or you are not aligned with your values. When you’re out of sorts life feels out of balance.

Remember that “Should Have Had V8-Commercial” where people were walking sideways due to lack of a healthy balance diet?

Well, it’s the same effect when your life is off track; You feel as though you’re walking sideways!

Balance is a feeling derived from being whole and complete; it’s a sense of harmony. It is essential to maintaining quality in life and work. Your life is made up of many vital areas which include your health, family, financial, social, career, spiritual, personal growth, romance and more.

These six steps can help in bringing balance to this journey called life.

  1. Peace Be Still:  Allow time for self care by practicing daily journaling, meditation, prayer, exercise or some other form of quiet time just for you where you can go to reflect, plan, relax and envision your day ahead.
  2. Healthy Meals & Exercise: Eat healthy meals, drink plenty of water, get adequate rest, and take care of your personal hygiene. Go for a walk. You may even take 5-10 minutes during lunch time and get some fresh air.
  3. Break-Free & Take-Time-For-Self: Give yourself a break every once in awhile throughout the day to restore your natural state of harmony and calm and to rekindle your creativity. Structure your day to take advantage of your peak performance times.
  4. Establish a support network: It’s ‘OK’ to ask for help and receive it. Enlist family, friends, neighbors, professionals, and others to help you as needed.
  5. Keep the main thing the main thing: When your life is over-complicated and your plate is too full there’s little space for what truly matters. Stop over-scheduling and over-committing; by working smarter and not harder. Begin eliminating things from your life that really aren’t important to you. There’s no room for personal growth, positive energy, love, or even breathing at times.
  6. Celebrate Your AchievementsIt’s ‘OK’ to celebrate your accomplishments! When you celebrate your accomplishments, you feel good about yourself. The good feeling that you get reminds you that accomplishments/milestones is a good thing.

Enjoy life by instilling healthy habits into your daily life. Find ways to relax, relieve tension, have fun and minimize stress.Prayer and preplanning can provide the wisdom and flexibility we need to balance our lives.

Be Prepared During A Winter Storm

snow-fallingA blizzard or even a heavy snowfall at the wrong time or in the wrong place can be a rude awakening for homeowners without the necessary supplies for prep and cleanup. Many winter storms are accompanied by dangerously low temperatures and sometimes by strong winds, icing, sleet and freezing rain.

Don’t be caught off guard the next time the white stuff threatens to cripple your region. Create a plan or checklist you can turn to when the weather report starts warning of a snowstorm. Here are seven things you may need to do.

  1. Winterize your vehicle and keep the gas tank full. A full tank will keep the fuel line from freezing.
  2. Insulate your home by installing storm windows or covering windows with plastic from the inside to keep cold air out.
  3. Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected every year.
  4. If you will be going away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home, set to a temperature no lower than 55° F.
  5. Have enough flashlights, batteries, blankets, non-perishable food, medical supplies and plenty of drinking water on hand.
  6. Be sure your shovels and ice melt are stored nearby.
  7. Check on the elderly people in your life; be sure they have enough food and medication to get through a storm.
